The WSU Cougars baseball team’s NCAA Tournament run ended with a 10-1 loss to Oregon State in a Eugene Regional elimination game on Sunday afternoon.
It ended a milestone season for Washington State, which won the Mountain West Conference tournament title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
The Cougars finished 31-28 – a massive turnaround from their 18-36 campaign in 2025.
WSU opened play at the four-team, double-elimination regional with a 3-2 win over Oregon State on Friday, led by a complete game from Mountain West pitcher of the year Nick Lewis.
However, the Cougars mustered just two hits in a 4-0 loss to No. 11 national seed Oregon on Saturday night and then fell to Oregon State in Sunday’s loser-out rematch.
With the victory, Oregon State advanced to face in-state rival Oregon in the regional final. Due to the double-elimination format, Oregon State still needs two straight victories over Oregon to win the regional, while Oregon just needs one more victory. The regional champion advances to the 16-team NCAA Super Regionals.
After the old Pac-12 fell apart, WSU’s baseball program spent the past two seasons in the Mountain West.
The Cougars finished last in the Mountain West in 2025, but authored a major turnaround this spring by finishing second out of nine teams in the regular-season conference standings. WSU then claimed the Mountain West tournament title for the program’s first conference championship of any sort since winning the Pac-10 North in 1995.
WSU baseball will play in the revamped Pac-12 next season.
Kickoff times announced for 11 of 12 WSU Cougars football games
