Report: UW Huskies freshman PG to enter transfer portal

UW Huskies freshman point guard JJ Mandaquit is planning to enter the transfer portal, ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Borzello reported Friday.

Mandaquit appeared in 22 games and made six starts as a true freshman for the Huskies this season, averaging 5.2 points, 3.2 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 19.6 minutes per game. He shot 43.5% from the field, 28.2% from 3-point range and 70% from the free-throw line.

The 6-foot-1 guard began the season in the Huskies’ starting lineup before moving to a bench role. He had surgery on a foot injury in February and missed the final 11 games of the season.

Madaquit was a prized piece of head coach Danny Sprinkle’s 2025 recruiting class. A four-star recruit out of Hilo, Hawaii, Mandaquit was ranked as the country’s sixth-ranked point guard and 50th-ranked overall prospect, according to 247sports’ composite rankings.

Mandaquit is the second of UW’s five freshmen recruits from the 2025 class set to hit the transfer portal. Former four-star guard Courtland Muldrew, who averaged 3.3 points over 20 games this season, announced he’s entering the portal earlier this week. Standout freshman forward Hannes Steinbach, a projected first-round NBA draft pick, is also expected to the leave the program and declare for the draft.

The transfer portal opens for a 15-day window starting April 7.

The Huskies went 16-17 overall and finished tied for 12th in the 18-team Big Ten at 7-13 in conference play.
