UW announces kickoff times for 3 games, including new day for Apple Cup

This year’s Apple Cup showdown between the UW Huskies and WSU Cougars will be played on a day it never has been before.

The Huskies announced the kickoff times and TV broadcast information for their first three games of the 2026 campaign on Wednesday, which included the Apple Cup being pushed back a day to Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.

This will be the first time the annual clash between the intrastate rivals will take place on Sunday. It has previously been played on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Saturday being the typical day of the week over the course of the rivalry.

UW has played just two Sunday games in its history: a 7-0 loss to Oregon on Dec. 1, 1918, and a 35-16 loss to Fresno State on Sept. 5, 2004.

This year’s Apple Cup, which will be the 114th meeting between the Huskies and Cougars, will be televised nationally on NBC. Further adding to the spotlight is that just two other FBS games are currently scheduled for that day: Louisville vs. Ole Miss and Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame. Those games are both set for 4:30 p.m. kickoffs.

UW also announced its Week 2 home game against Utah State will kick off 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, and its Week 3 home contest against Eastern Washington will kick off at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. Both games are set to be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Kickoff times and TV details for two of the Huskies’ conference games had already been announced by the Big Ten: a 6 p.m. kickoff at home against Iowa on Friday, Oct. 9, which will air on FOX or FS1; and a 5 p.m. kickoff for a road game against Purdue on Friday, Oct. 16, which will air on FOX.
