Will rain impact Mariners’ series vs Yankees again?

Weather impacted the opening game of the series, but the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees appear to have a good chance of getting through their final two games at Yankee Stadium without further delays.

First pitch for Wednesday and Thursday’s Mariners-Yankees games is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (4:05 p.m. PT).

According to Weather.com’s hourly forecast, the chance of rain is just 4% at 7 p.m. in Bronx County on Wednesday. Thunderstorms are expected at 11 p.m. with a chance of isolated storms at 10 p.m., which would likely be after the game is finished.

The chance of rain increases to 22% at 7 p.m. on Thursday but doesn’t move above 24% throughout the evening. Thunderstorms are not in the forecast Thursday.

The Mariners and Yankees played a rain-soaked series opener Tuesday. The game was suspended for 35 minutes in the top of the fifth inning. The Yankees went on to win 10-3.

The Mariners have had two other games delayed by rain this season – a 90-minute delay in Chicago on May 20 against the White Sox and a 4 hour, 20 minute delay on June 26 at the Minnesota Twins. But they’ve yet to have a game postponed.

Potential makeup dates

On the off chance the Mariners and Yankees are rained out Wednesday and/or Thursday and need to make up a game at a later date, the clubs have only mutual day off for the remainder of the season (not including the All-Star break).

Both teams are off Monday, Sept. 22, but it would be a tough situation for the Mariners. Seattle wraps up a three-game series at the Houston Astros the day prior and begins a season-ending six-game home stand against the Colorado Rockies the day after, so a trip to New York would be well out of the way.

The Yankees finish a four-game series at the Baltimore Orioles the day prior to the mutual off day and begin a six-game homestand the following day.
