Watch: Cal Raleigh makes his Team USA debut in tune-up for WBC

Monday offered the first glimpse of Seattle Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh in a Team USA uniform. Tuesday offered the first look at The Big Dumper actually playing a game in said uniform.

Raleigh batted sixth and started at catcher for Team USA in its exhibition tune-up for the World Baseball Classic against the San Francisco Giants at Scottsdale Stadium. The 2025 American League MVP runner-up received a nice ovation when he stepped into the batter’s box for the first time, which you can see in the video below.

Raleigh finished the game 2 for 5 with two RBIs and two walks. He drove in both runs with a soft single to center field with the bases loaded in the ninth inning off Giants right-hander Trent Harris to give the U.S. a 15-1 lead, which held as the final score in the 10-inning game.

Mariners left-hander Gabe Speier also got into the action in his first game as a member of Team USA. Speier pitched a scoreless 10th inning, striking out two while allowing one hit and one walk.

Raleigh and Speier weren’t alone when it came to representing the Mariners on Tuesday in Scottsdale. MLB Hall of Famer and M’s legend Ken Griffey Jr. was on the field pregame during practice and was seen having a conversation with 23-time Olympic gold-winning-swimmer Michael Phelps.

Raleigh, Speier and Team USA continue exhibition play Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. Their first WBC game is against Brazil at 5 p.m. on Friday at Daikin Park in Houston. TV coverage of Team USA’s WBC opener will air on FOX.
