Details on cash considerations Mariners get from White Sox in trade

The Associated Press has reported on the cash considerations that were part of the Seattle Mariners' trade that added Seranthony Domínguez to their bullpen and sent Luis Castillo to the White Sox.

As part of Saturday’s trade where the Seattle Mariners dealt three-time All-Star right-hander Luis Castillo, the Chicago White Sox took on a contingent obligation in the contract of relief pitcher Seranthony Domínguez.

Chicago would pay Seattle $610,000 on Jan. 14, 2028, if the $13 million mutual option for 2028 in Domínguez’s contract is declined, which would trigger a $2 million buyout.

Domínguez had $2,133,690 remaining from a $7 million salary this season, the first in a $20 million, two-year contract.

Domínguez, 31, had a rough debut for the Mariners on Monday night, recording just one out while allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks, including a pair of home runs, in the ninth inning of an 8-0 loss at home to the Detroit Tigers. He now has a 4.89 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 43 appearances this season.

Castillo, 33, is 3-9 with 86 strikeouts and a 5.06 ERA across 99 2/3 innings. He is under contract through the 2027 season with a vesting option for 2028, and is making $22.75 million in 2026 and will make $22.75 million next year. The White Sox are paying all of the approximately $30 million guaranteed left over in his deal.

Castillo is set to make his first start for the White Sox on Thursday at Boston.

Seattle also received catcher prospect Boston Smith and minor league outfielder Nolan Jones in the trade.
