ALCS Game 2 Lineups: Mariners look to go up 2-0 against Blue Jays

Update: The Toronto Blue Jays scratched left fielder Anthony Santander from their ALDS Game 2 lineup against the Seattle Mariners, with Davis Schneider taking his place. Below is their new lineup.

The Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays are ready to go at it for the second time in less than 24 hours with Game 2 of the ALCS set for 2:03 p.m. Monday.

The Mariners, who beat the Blue Jays 3-1 at Toronto’s Rogers Centre on Sunday night to take a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series, have announced their lineup for Game 2, and it’s exactly what you would expect with another right-handed starting pitcher on the mound for the Jays.

Here’s what the Mariners’ lineup looks like, which is their usual batting order against righty starters:

Seattle is starting 2024 All-Star pitcher Logan Gilbert on the mound. He was a standout in the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers, throwing six innings of one-run ball in a Game 3 win last Tuesday and coming out of the bullpen just three days later to throw 34 pitches in two scoreless innings during Seattle’s 15-inning Game 5 victory.

The Blue Jays are running out the same players from Game 1, which means that Nathan Lukes is back in right field and hitting second in the order. Lukes fouled a ball off of his kneecap in the first inning Sunday and eventually was replaced by Myles Straw in the top of the fourth.

There is one small tweak to Toronto’s lineup compared to Sunday, with left fielder Antony Santander hitting sixth, switching places with second baseman Ernie Clement, who is hitting seventh.

The lineup features four left-handed hitters plus the switch-hitting Santander against a Mariners pitching staff that is heavy on right-handers, but no two lefties bat back-to-back for the Jays.

The Blue Jays are starting rookie Trey Yesavage on the mound. The No. 26 overall prospect in baseball per MLB.com, Yesavage wowed in the ALDS, throwing 5 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk in a Game 2 win over the New York Yankees.
