Another top Mariners prospect called up to Everett AquaSox

The Everett AquaSox recently saw a number of top Seattle Mariners prospects move on from the High-A ranks and out of the Pacific Northwest, but they’re now bringing in a new big name.

The Mariners announced Monday that switch-hitting shortstop Felnin Celesten has been promoted to Everett from the Low-A Modesto Nuts.

With the AquaSox off from play Monday, it is likely Celesten will make his PNW debut when Everett hosts the Spokane Indians for a 7:05 p.m. series opener Tuesday night at Funko Field.

Celesten is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 97 overall prospect in baseball and No. 9 in the Mariners’ well-stocked farm system.

Signed by Seattle out of the Dominican Republic in January 2023, Celesten was the headliner of the franchise’s international free agent class that year.

The 19-year-old Celesten made his pro debut in 2024, slashing .352/.431/.568 for a .999 OPS in 32 games for the Mariners’ Arizona Complex League affiliate. He had three home runs, 10 doubles, four triples, 27 RBIs, five stolen bases, and 18 walks to 28 strikeouts.

This year with Modesto, Celesten slashed .285/.349/.384 for a .733 OPS with five homers, 19 doubles, two triples, 55 RBIs, 20 steals, and 37 walks to 96 strikeouts.

Per MLB Pipeline, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound is an overall 55 grade on the 20-80 scouting scale, with a 55 grade for each of hitting, running, throwing and fielding, and a 45 grade for power.

Celesten joins pitcher Ryan Sloan (No. 42 overall, No. 5 Mariners) and outfielder Jonny Farmelo (No. 83 overall, No. 7 Mariners) as prospects ranked in the top 100 by MLB Pipeline on the AquaSox roster.

Everett has seen four other highly-ranked prospects move on to Double-A Arkansas recently: shortstop Colt Emerson (No. 11 overall, No. 1 Mariners), outfielder Lazaro Montes (No. 29 overall, No. 3 Mariners), second baseman Michael Arroyo (No. 61 overall, No. 6 Mariners) and switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje (No. 95 overall, No. 8 Mariners).
