Mariners sign first-round pick Ace Reese; 2 draftees remain unsigned

The Seattle Mariners’ top 2026 draft pick is now officially locked in as a member of the organization.

The Mariners announced Tuesday they have signed first-round pick Ace Reese, a third baseman from Mississippi State. Reese was at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday to see the city, meet the team and go through some pregame workouts, including taking his first batting practice in Seattle.

MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported Reese received a $3.5 million signing bonus, which is below the slot value $3,818,700 for the 24th overall pick. According to Kramer’s reporting, fourth-round pick third baseman Trevor Lucas also signed for under slot value, while seventh-round pick shortstop Ryan Wynn, ninth-round pick right-handed-pitcher Drew Whalen and 10th-round pick second baseman Eric Jeon all signed for over slot value.

Reese debuted as the No. 5 prospect in the Mariners’ farm system in Baseball America’s updated top 30 for the organization.

With the signing of Reese, the Mariners have now inked 18 of their 20 draft picks, including each of their first 17 selections.

Teams have until Monday to sign their draft picks.

M’s promote prospects, make several releases in sweeping MILB moves

The two remaining unsigned Mariners draft picks are 18th-rounder Dominic Santarelli and 20th-rounder Connor Shouse.

Santarelli, a high school outfielder, was the Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year as a senior in 2026 and rated as the 129th prospect in the ’26 draft class by MLB Pipeline. He’s committed to play college baseball at LSU and announced on social media he would honor that commitment shortly after he was picked by the M’s.

Shouse, a third baseman from Texas Tech, was a draft-eligible sophomore and is returning to college next season. Shouse announced July 4 he’s transferring to South Carolina for his junior year.

In addition to their draft-pick signings, the Mariners have signed five undrafted players: Florida Atlantic outfielder Kyle Boylston, Oregon State catcher Jacob Galloway, Nevada catcher Jake Harvey, Ohio State infielder Henry Kaczmar and East Texas Baptist University right-handed-pitcher Isaac Thornton.
