The Seattle Mariners went with a college player for the SEC with their first pick in the MLB Draft for the third straight year.

The M’s picked Mississippi State third baseman Ace Reese with the 24th overall pick in the first round on Day 1 of the 2026 draft Saturday.

Seattle holds 20 picks in total during the two-day event, which concludes Sunday with rounds 5-20.

• 1st Round, No. 24 overall: Ace Reese, 3B, Mississippi St. | 6-4, 220

Reese, 21, slashed .336/.432/.721 (1.152 OPS) with 25 homers, 23 doubles, 74 RBIs and 41 walks to 63 strikeouts over 62 games as a junior this past season while helping the Bulldogs reach the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament. He was a first-team All-America selection by Baseball America and first-team All-SEC pick. Reese, a left-handed bat, was the 12th-ranked prospect in the draft by Baseball America.

• 2nd round, No. 65: Jake Brown, OF, LSU | 6-2, 206

Brown, 21, slashed .309/.404/.642 (1.047 OPS) with 16 homers, seven doubles, 49 RBIs and 23 walks to 32 strikeouts in 42 games with LSU in 2026. Brown, a left-handed bat, was the 81st-ranked prospect in the draft by Baseball America. He was a teammate of 2025 Mariners first-round pick Kade Anderson on LSU’s national championship squad in 2025.

• 3rd round, No. 101: Nathan Taylor, RHP, Cincinnati | 6-5, 230

Taylor, 21, posted a 7-3 record, 3.60 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 115 strikeouts and 27 walks over 90 innings in 16 starts this past season. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection and ranked top five in the conference in innings pitched, wins, ERA and strikeouts. Taylor was the 149th-ranked prospect in the draft by Baseball America.

• 4th round, No. 129: Trevor Lucas, 3B, UNC Wilmington | 6-0, 200

Lucas, 21, slashed .312/.429/.556 (.985 OPS) with 12 homers, 12 doubles, one triple, and 56 RBIs while walking more times (38) than he struck out (35) in 2026. His efforts earned first-team All-Coastal Athletic Association honors. He was the 414th-ranked prospect in the draft by Baseball America.
