The Seattle Mariners’ bullpen has been missing some key high-leverage arms lately, but the M’s received a great sign from the first rehab outing for Matt Brash.

The 28-year-old right-hander is working his way back from right lat inflammation and started his minor league rehab assignment Thursday night with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. The outing could not have gone better.
Brash struck out the side in a perfect seventh inning (see video here), his lone inning of work, and even earned the win in the Rainiers’ 4-3 victory over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys at Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium. Brash threw 15 pitches, nine of which were strikes, while relying mostly on his sinker and slider. He also threw one changeup and one four-seam fastball in the final at-bat of the inning. He topped out at 95.5 mph with his sinker, while the slider started around 83 mph in the first at-bat and topped out at 86.2 mph on the final pitch of his outing.
Brash has been on the injured list for the minimum of 15 days for pitchers, so the Mariners could activate him soon. Mariners general manager Justin Hollander will likely provide a timeline on when Brash could return when he talks to the media Friday afternoon at T-Mobile Park prior to Seattle’s homestand opener against the San Diego Padres, which is set for a 6:40 p.m. first pitch.
In 14 appearances for the Mariners this season, Brash has yet to allow an earned run. He has a 0.44 WHIP, four holds and eight strikeouts to two walks and one hit batter. Last season, Brash had a 2.47 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 21 holds, four saves and 58 strikeouts to 18 walks and two hit batters over 53 appearances and 47 1/3 innings pitched.
Victor Robles
Also in Tacoma, right fielder Victor Robles is now nine games into a rehab assignment as the 28 year old works back from a right pectoral strain.
Robles went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored as the leadoff man and starting designated hitter in Thursday’s Rainiers win. It’s taken Robles some time to get going at the plate during the rehab stint, as he is just 6 for 29 (.207) with 12 strikeouts with Tacoma.
Prior to his injury, Robles was 3 for 13 (.231) with a double and a stolen base in five games for the Mariners. Last season, he hit .245 while being limited to 32 games in the regular season for Seattle due to a fracture and dislocation in his shoulder.
Patrick Wisdom
Veteran corner infielder Patrick Wisdom (left oblique strain) started a rehab assignment with Tacoma on May 5. After an initial slow start, he erupted with a 2 for 4 game with two home runs and three RBIs on May 9 at El Paso, and is now 4 for 17 (.235) with a double, two walks and the two homers on his rehab stint.

The Mariners called Wisdom up from Tacoma in April while outfielder Rob Refsnyder went on the paternity list, and he struck out in his lone plate appearance before going on the IL.
In 21 games in Triple-A this year, Wisdom is hitting .257 with 11 homers, one double, 21 RBIs and an 1.101 OPS. He’s tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in home runs despite having played just over half as many games this season in Triple-A as the player he’s tied with.
Wisdom was an offseason minor league signing by Seattle coming off of a 2025 season where he hit 35 homers in 119 games in the Korea Baseball Organization. The 34-year-old Wisdom hit 23 homers or more in three straight seasons for the Chicago Cubs from 2021-23.
