Most no-hitters feature a web gem somewhere along the way.
For the Everett AquaSox on Friday night, it was Seattle Mariners prospect Tai Peete who delivered that highlight-reel defensive play.

With a runner on first and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, High-A Everett’s no-hit bid looked like it was about to end when Eugene’s James Tibbs III hit a fly ball into the right-center-field gap.
Peete had other plans. The speedy 19-year-old center fielder broke hard on the ball and laid out for a diving catch that ended the frame and kept the no-no alive.
Two innings later, the AquaSox completed the first combined no-hitter in club history.
Everett starter Ryan Hawks struck out seven and walked three over the first seven innings, Charlie Beilenson retired the side in the eighth and UW Huskies product Stefan Raeth struck out the side in the ninth to seal a 1-0 win and finish off the milestone.
It was the AquaSox’s third no-hitter overall in club history. Maximo Aleys achieved the feat in 1989 back when the club was called the Everett Giants and Juan Mercedes recorded a seven-inning no-hitter in 2022.
Peete was a first-round draft pick by Seattle in 2023, taken with the No. 30 overall pick out of high school in Sharpsburg, Ga. He’s ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Mariners’ No. 12 prospect and by Baseball America as their No. 14 prospect.
Peete was drafted as a shortstop, but has since transitioned to center field. He began mixing in some time in the outfield last season at Low-A Modesto before moving to a full-time outfield role this year in Everett.
Last year, Peete he hit .269 with seven home runs, nine triples, 26 doubles, 45 stolen bases and a .751 OPS in 116 games at Modesto. This year, he’s batting .222 with seven homers, two triples, 11 doubles, seven stolen bases and a .669 OPS in 49 games at Everett.
Hawks, a 2023 eighth-round draft pick out of Louisville, has a 3.63 ERA in 10 starts for the AquaSox this season.
Raeth, a 17th-round pick out of UW in 2022, has had an impressive start to the season. The 24-year-old right-hander has 2.38 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in 17 relief appearances, with 26 strikeouts and just four walks across 22 2/3 innings.
