As the hottest team in the majors, there have been no shortage of highlights and feel-good moments for the Seattle Mariners over the past few weeks.
One of the best came on Saturday.
Why 2 MLB insiders are bullish on Mariners’ October hopes
Hard-throwing reliever Matt Brash made his much-anticipated return from Tommy John surgery, tossing a scoreless seventh inning in the Mariners’ 2-1 win over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
Brash gave up a leadoff single to Jonah Heim, but then struck out Adolis García with a 95 mph sinker in on the hands. The 26-year-old right-hander then got Josh Jung to ground into an inning-ending double play to complete his 14-pitch scoreless frame.

It was Brash’s first time on an MLB mound in 581 days, as he missed all of last season after suffering a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. His last appearance came on Sept. 30, 2023, in the penultimate game of that season.
Brash made his MLB debut in 2022 and then had a standout 2023 campaign, posting a 3.06 ERA with 107 strikeouts over 70 2/3 innings while establishing himself as a key high-leverage arm in Seattle’s bullpen.
Brash’s return is a major boost for a Mariners team that’s already riding high. With one of the nastiest sliders in the majors, the Ontario, Canada, native gives manager Dan Wilson another big-time weapon for late-game situations.
The American League West-leading Mariners are sitting at 20-12, having won six straight games and 16 of their past 20. They will go for a three-game sweep of the Rangers on Sunday, with first pitch at 11:35 a.m.
