Mariners Lineup: No Josh Naylor a day after exiting game early

New Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor is out of the lineup for Friday’s series opener against Tampa Bay, a day after he exited a win over the White Sox in the fourth inning.

Luckily, it sounds like there’s not too much reason for concern. Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Friday that Naylor is feeling better and could pinch-hit. For more details, click the link below.

Mariners Injuries: Good news on Naylor, Raley, Miller and Robles

Naylor showed discomfort on his swings during an at-bat in the third inning Thursday. When the Mariners came out to play defense in the following frame, Donovan Solano took over for Naylor at first.

After Thursday’s win, Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Naylor left the game with shoulder soreness and is day-to-day.

With Naylor out of Friday’s lineup, Solano is starting at first base against Rays starting pitcher and Washington native Drew Rasmussen. The Mariners have moved up Jorge Polanco, who is serving as the designated hitter, to the cleanup spot that Naylor has manned since joining the team.

The Mariners’ lineup otherwise looks pretty similar to what they’ve been using since they added both Naylor and All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez in separate trades with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Randy Arozarena will lead off, followed by Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez hitting second and third, respectively. Suárez remains in the No. 5 spot, while J.P. Crawford is eighth in the order and rookie second baseman Cole Young is ninth.

Right fielder Dominic Canzone, who was the hero Thursday with a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning, will hit sixth.

Right-hander Luis Castillo (8-6, 3.22 ERA, 1.211 WHIP) gets the start on the mound for the Mariners.

It will be a homecoming to the Pacific Northwest for Rasmussen, who was born in Puyallup, attended Mount Spokane High School and played in college at Oregon State. A first-time All-Star this year, the 30-year-old righty is 9-5 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.022 WHIP. He threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings in his last start on Aug. 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
