Seattle Mariners fans are about to get their first look at top prospect Colt Emerson playing the position he’s expected to eventually take over at the major league level.

There’s one way Mariners’ Colt Emerson is showing he’s ‘really special’ already

Emerson is in the Mariners’ lineup as the shortstop and batting ninth against left-hander Anthony Kay as the M’s continue their series against the Chicago White Sox at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday.

Emerson collected his first MLB hit – a three-run home run – on Monday night during his second big league game.

With Emerson getting the start at shortstop Tuesday, veteran J.P. Crawford is getting the night off. Crawford exited Sunday’s game with a triceps contusion after being hit by a pitch, and was hit by another pitch that just missed his arm Monday night.

Since Seattle is facing a left-hander, Rob Refsnyder is in the leadoff spot as the designated hitter. Patrick Wisdom, who was reinstated off the injured list Monday, is batting fifth and playing third base. And Connor Joe is in right field batting seventh.

Tuesday’s matchup will also provide the first look at the Mariners’ piggyback situation with right-handers Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo. Miller will get the start and Castillo will come out of the bullpen. It will be the first time in a non-playoff game that Castillo has pitched in relief. He made his only relief appearance as a big leaguer in the Mariners’ Game 5 win over the Detroit Tigers in the 2025 American League Division Series.
