The Seattle Mariners called up right-handed reliever Alex Hoppe from Triple-A Tacoma and designated right-hander reliever Casey Legumina for assignment ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Athletics.
One top performer from each Seattle Mariners minor league team
Hoppe, 27, has struck out 12 batters and recorded four saves over eight scoreless innings in eight appearances for the Rainiers. He’s allowed four hits and three walks and held batters to a .148 average.
Hoppe, who was acquired in a November 2025 trade with the Boston Red Sox for minor league catcher Luke Heyman, has yet to appear in a big league game.
A sixth-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of UNC Greensboro, Hoppe features a four-pitch mix with a four-seam fastball that sits at 97-98 mph, slider, changeup and cutter.
Legumina, a Gonzaga product, has a 4.63 ERA with six runs allowed over 11 2/3 innings pitched in eight appearances this season. The 28 year old has allowed 15 hits and three walks while striking out nine batters.
Legumina pitched in Monday’s game against the Athletics, allowing three runs in one inning and taking the loss in a 6-3 final.
The right-hander pitched in 48 games for the Mariners last season, posting a 5.62 ERA over 49 2/3 innings.
The Mariners’ 40-man roster is now at 39 players.
Seattle also announced Tuesday that right-hander Blas Castaño was claimed off waivers by the Colorado Rockies. The 27-year-old Castaño, who was DFA’d on April 14, made his MLB debut with the M’s last season. He allowed three runs over three innings in his lone big league appearance.
The Mariners continue their three-game series against the Athletics at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Radio coverage on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app starts with the pregame show at 5:30 p.m.
