Mariners Alumni Home Run Derby will be free on streaming TV

The Seattle Mariners are bringing their Alumni Home Run Derby to streaming TV – for free.

The Mariners announced video of Friday’s event will be broadcast live through the Mariners.TV and MLB.TV platforms, and will not be subject to blackouts, meaning it will be available anywhere.

Mariners make seven roster moves, including Donovan’s return

Mariners play-by-play broadcasters Aaron Goldsmith and Gary Hill Jr. will be on the call for the derby, which will feature a similar presentation to when the team streams spring training games live on its website.

The Alumni Home Run Derby will be part of the Mariners’ 50 Seasons Celebration Weekend, taking place after the Aug. 7 game against the Tampa Bay Rays (the TV broadcast of which will be on Apple TV). Baseball Hall of Fame member Ichiro Suzuki will headline the field of seven contestants, which will also include Mike Cameron, Ryon Healy, Stefan Romero, Bucky Jacobsen, Austin Nola and Ryan Rowland-Smith.

The derby will be hosted by MLB Network personality Greg Amsinger, with Ken Griffey Jr. presiding as the derby commissioner, and Jay Buhner and Nelson Cruz serving as the derby coaches. Star center fielder Julio Rodríguez will be making his debut as a DJ at T-Mobile Park for the event under his ‘DJ Pleno’ moniker.

The derby itself will feature two rounds, with the top two hitters from the first round battling in the championship round.

Fans can also pick up special tickets to the game that come with an Alumni Home Run Derby T-shirt.
