Seattle Mariners add righty reliever from Cincinnati Reds

There is a new name joining the bullpen picture for the Seattle Mariners.

Right-hander Yosver Zulueta has been acquired via trade by the Mariners, with right-handed minor league pitcher Dusty Revis going to the Cincinnati Reds in return.

Seattle was quick to make the move, as Zulueta was designated for assignment by Cincinnati earlier Thursday to make room for the signing of pitcher Pierce Johnson.

To create room on the Mariners’ 40-man roster, utility player Samad Taylor was designated for assignment.

Zulueta, a native of Cuba who will turn 28 later this month, made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2024. To date, he has made 19 career MLB appearances, all with Cincinnati.

In 2025, Zulueta had a 6.14 ERA, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out five over 7 1/3 innings.

Zulueta spent the majority of last season with Triple-A Louisville, where he had a 4.03 ERA and 1.144 WHIP in 44 relief appearances, with 72 strikeouts to 32 walks over 60 1/3 innings.

Initially an international signing in 2019 by the Toronto Blue Jays, Zulueta was a waiver claim pickup by the Reds in 2024.

Zulueta has already pitched in his new home ballpark. He participated in the 2023 MLB All-Star Futures Game at T-Mobile Park, registering two outs – both strikeouts – while allowing one run on one hit for the American League team.

Per Statcast, Zulueta threw a sinker 40% of the time with the Reds in 2025. He also featured a slider (34.3%), four-seam fastball (17.9%) and changeup (7.9%). His sinker averaged 96.3 mph, while his four-seamer checked in at 95.8 mph. The slider and changeup are both in the high 80s.

Zulueta is set to be the sixth reliever added this offseason to the Mariners’ 40-man roster. The others are Jose A. Ferrer, Alex Hoppe, Ryan Loutos, Robinson Ortiz and Cole Wilcox.

The 22-year-old Revis was an 11th-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Western Carolina University by Seattle.

Taylor, 27, played seven games for the Mariners between 2024 and 2025. He previously played in the big leagues with Kansas City. With Triple-A Tacoma in 2025, he hit .296 with 17 home runs, 124 runs, 86 RBIs, 44 stolen bases and an .839 OPS.
