SEATTLE MARINERS

FOX’s Adam Amin: Seattle Mariners aren’t a ‘cute story’ anymore

Oct 3, 2025, 3:41 PM | Updated: 3:52 pm

The last time the Seattle Mariners were in the playoffs, they were the final wild card to make it from the American League, riding a magical story of ending a 21-year postseason drought on a walk-off home run.

Times announced for Games 3-5 of Mariners’ ALDS vs Tigers

They’re back in now three years later, this time as the AL West champs and the No. 2 seed, even getting five days to prepare while lower-seeded teams battled it out in the wild card round.

That makes for a very different narrative around the M’s this October, according to FOX and FS1 broadcaster Adam Amin, who will be on the call for the AL Division Series between the Mariners and Detroit Tigers that begins Saturday.

“This doesn’t feel like a cute story to me anymore, just watching the Mariners,” Amin said Friday to Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk. “… Three years ago when this team made the playoffs, it was like a fun thing. It was like, oh man, finally they made it. Cal Raleigh walkoff, they’re going to the postseason for the first time in 20-plus years. Then it’s like, alright, that was a great game. They lost to the Astros – I know that was an awesome 18-inning game, but, OK, whatever. They finally got back, now let’s make it happen.”

The Mariners didn’t make it back to the postseason in 2023 and 2024, though, missing the cut by the slimmest of margins.

“The last two years felt a little bit torturous to miss out by a game, to keep missing out,” Amin continued.

Seattle Mariners clinch first division title since 2001

With the M’s and their fans having lived through those last two seasons, and now with the team in the postseason with true intentions on reaching the first World Series in Seattle baseball history, Amin hopes to convey that on Saturday’s broadcast.

“In what I think is a wide-open American League and frankly a wide-open playoffs, this feels like a legitimate contender,” Amin said of the M’s. “This isn’t a cute story, I think, for people. And I want to make sure that when we hit the air on Saturday, that might be one of the first things we say to try to introduce the team again.”
