One of the Seattle Mariners’ surprising bullpen contributors from last season is back with the big league club.

The M’s activated right-hander Troy Taylor off the 15-day injured list Monday as they prepare for a nine-game road trip. Right-hander Casey Lawrence was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Taylor was in the clubhouse after Sunday’s series finale at home against Texas in order to join the team on a road trip that begins Tuesday at Cincinnati.
The right-hander is joining a bullpen that’s thrown the second-most innings in baseball at 65.
Taylor, 23, missed all of spring training with a right lat strain. In five appearances during a rehab stint with Triple-A Tacoma, he struck out four and allowed six runs on nine hits and one walk over 3 2/3 innings. He tossed two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout and one hit allowed in his final outing with the Rainiers on Sunday.
Taylor made a quick climb through the M’s organization last year during his second pro season. A 12th-round MLB Draft pick in 2022, he started last year with the High-A Everett AquaSox, was promoted to Double-A Arkansas in May, and made his big league debut in August after 29 appearances in Double-A.
In 21 games with the Mariners, he posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.14 WHIP with one save and 25 strikeouts over 19 1/3 innings.
Taylor mostly features a two-pitch mix with a fastball in the high 90s and a sweeper. He also throws the occasional changeup to left-handers. Batters hit just .188 off his sweeper last season.
Lawrence picked up the win against the Astros on Wednesday during his lone appearance with Seattle this season. The 37 year old allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while providing three needed innings for a taxed bullpen.
Lawrence’s appearance was his first in the big leagues since 2023. He previously pitched for Seattle during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
The Mariners open their series in Cincinnati at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, with radio coverage starting at 2:30 with the pregame show. After the three-game series against the Reds, the Mariners’ nine-game, 10-day road trip will see them go to Toronto and Boston.
