Roster Move: Mariners recall RHP Alex Hoppe, option reliever

The Seattle Mariners recalled right-handed reliever Alex Hoppe from Triple-A Tacoma ahead of Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

In a corresponding move, Seattle optioned right-handed reliever Nick Davila to Tacoma.

Hoppe, 27, has a 6.38 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 21 relief appearances for the Mariners this season. He has 26 strikeouts and 10 walks over 24 innings.

This is Hoppe’s second time being called up to the majors. He made his MLB debut for Seattle on April 27 and spent two months in the big leagues before being optioned to Tacoma on June 27. He was acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox last November in exchange for minor league catcher Luke Heyman.

Davila, 27, has a 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 20 relief appearances for the Mariners this year. He has nine strikeouts and 11 walks in 22 2/3 innings. This is Davila’s second time being optioned to Tacoma since making his MLB debut for Seattle on May 3.

The Mariners (51-54) have lost the first two games of their pivotal four-game series against the AL West-leading Rangers. With their fourth straight loss on Saturday night, the M’s fell to third place in the AL West. They trail the Rangers by 2.5 games and the Houston Astros by a half-game.

First pitch for Sunday’s game is scheduled for 11:35 a.m. Radio coverage on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app begins with the pregame show at 10:30 a.m.
