Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto is known to be looking for another outfielder and Miami’s Marcell Ozuna appears to be a target. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com was the first to report talks between the Mariners and Marlins.

Despite the report, it does not appear a deal is imminent. Miami is known to be looking for young, controllable starting pitching and while the Mariners don’t exactly have a surplus of arms, they may be willing to part with Roenis Elias or Nathan Karns. More recent Tweets from Miami writers speculate that the Marlins may be holding out for Taijuan Walker. The Mariners obviously would not make that deal straight-up, if at all.

The Mariners have interest in Ozuna, but they are not alone. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reported Wednesday morning that Ozuna is gathering plenty of trade interest from a number of teams. While Dipoto has preferred to make quick strikes on established targets, it appears the Marlins will move more slowly and take time to see what the market is for their young outfielder.
