The Seattle Mariners’ first home run of 2026 spring training belongs to second base/outfield prospect Michael Arroyo.
How Mariners’ reunion with Mitch Garver came together
Arroyo blasted an opposite-field two-run homer in the second inning of the Mariners’ Cactus League opener on Friday, sending an 0-2 changeup over the right-field fence for a 406-foot shot off San Diego Padres left-handed pitching prospect Jagger Haynes.
Arroyo then followed with another extra-base hit in his second at-bat, when he lined a first-pitch double to the center-field fence off veteran lefty Wandy Peralta in the fourth inning.
A 21-year-old from Columbia, Arroyo is ranked by MLB Pipeline as baseball’s No. 67 overall prospect and the Mariners’ No. 5 prospect

Arroyo has had a productive past two seasons of full-season ball. Last year, he slashed .262/.401/.433 with 17 home runs and an .834 OPS across 121 games in High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas.
While Arroyo started at second base for the Mariners on Friday, he could move to the outfield due to Seattle’s crowded collection of highly touted infield talent.
Arroyo will be one of the Mariners’ 16 players leaving camp at the start of World Baseball Classic play. He will be on Team Colombia along with M’s pitcher Guillermo Zuñiga.
