Mariners’ Taijuan Walker leaves Arizona Fall League

After two strong starts for the Surprise Saguaros, Taijuan Walker’s Arizona Fall League season is over. Walker was scratched from his Saturday start, and on Sunday night Mariners general manager Jack Zdruiencik issued the following statement:

“Taijuan is completely healthy and was very impressive in his two outings but made a personal decision that he needed to return home at this time. He will continue with his off-season program and we look forward to seeing him at Spring Training in February.”

After Walker missed a good part of the season due to injury, the Mariners had hoped to get him an extra 20-25 innings this fall. He made two starts, giving up just two earned runs while striking out 11 in a total of nine innings. Walker finishes 2014 having pitched 120.1 innings between the majors, minors and AFL.
