The Seattle Mariners ended up with one more injury update than expected following Thursday’s 9-2 loss to the Astros, but they appear to have avoided any serious damage.

Prospects giving first-place Seattle Mariners a good problem

Manager Dan Wilson told reporters postgame that Julio Rodríguez is day-to-day with back stiffness after being a late scratch from the lineup. Rodríguez took part in batting practice before the game and was pulled from the lineup about 30 minutes before first pitch.

“It kind of tightened up on him during batting practice today, so just wanting to be precautious with it,” Wilson said. “Again, something that’s day-to-day. We’ll assess it tomorrow when we get here.”

Wilson also had an update on starting pitcher Bryan Woo, who took a foul ball off the leg while sitting in the dugout during a freak occurrence in the eighth inning. After being hit by the foul ball, Woo was seen limping as he went back the clubhouse with a trainer on the ROOT Sports broadcast.

Wilson said Woo had some bruising on his lower leg, but he wasn’t concerned that Woo would miss his scheduled start Saturday in Houston.

“He was up and around walking around, so he should be fine,” Wilson said.

The foul ball hitting Woo was the second time a pitcher was hurt during an unusual occurrence in a meeting between the Mariners and Astros this season. Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti broke his right thumb when he was hit by a line drive while playing catch in left field as the Mariners took batting practice on April 7 in Seattle. Arrighetti is still on the injured list.
