Mariners notebook: Brad Miller, Rob Neyer scheduled for “The Hot Stove”

We have what should be a great edition of “The Hot Stove” coming up Tuesday night. Rick Rizzs and Mike Blowers will join me in studio for two hours of baseball talk on 710 ESPN Seattle, and our scheduled guests are Mariners shortstop Brad Miller, third-base coach Rich Donnelly, longtime head athletic trainer Rick Griffin, FOXSports.com’s Rob Neyer and Camden Finney from the Mariners’ marketing department to give us some of the details on Mariners promotions in 2015.

Donnelly is one of the better storytellers in the game, and it will be interesting to get Miller’s thoughts heading into what will be a spring training battle with Chris Taylor at shortstop. I am interested to get Griffin’s thoughts on the overall health of the team and steps – particularly with the pitchers – that are taken to keep players in good shape.

• With the start of spring training less than two weeks away there has not been much Mariners news. A special thanks to maqman for starting a good conversation in the previous post’s comment thread while I took a few days off – completely off – from work and the blog.

• Relief pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen still does not have a contract, and it would appear that the Mariners are about to take a player to arbitration for the first time in 12 years. With all arbitration cases scheduled to be heard by Feb. 20 we will hear more about this sooner rather than later. Bob Dutton of The News Tribune has some thoughts on why it was hard to strike a deal with Wilhelmsen.

• Tuesday is “Truck Day” for the Mariners. The team’s truck will be loaded with equipment, luggage and yes, some golf clubs, and is set to leave Safeco Field headed for Peoria Tuesday afternoon.
