The rare scheduled doubleheader on the Seattle Mariners’ 2026 slate is no longer. Instead, the first game has been moved back to the same day as when the U.S. men’s national team will be in Seattle for the World Cup.

The Mariners announced Wednesday that rather than playing the previously scheduled doubleheader at T-Mobile Park on Saturday, June 20, to start a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox, the series will now start on Friday, June 19, with a 7:10 p.m. first pitch. It will also be a fireworks night at the stadium.

The U.S. men take on Australia in group play that Friday at noon at nearby Lumen Field, the home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC.

The Mariners-Red Sox doubleheader had been scheduled to avoid potential conflicts with the World Cup match. The noon start time for the World Cup game allowed the Mariners to move Game 1 of their series against the Red Sox to Friday, according to release from the team.

The M’s will continue their three-game set against Boston on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. and the series finale will be at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday.

June 19 is currently the only time the Mariners are scheduled to play on the same day as any of the six World Cup games being hosted at Lumen Field. The M’s have a rare mid-series day off July 1 to avoid conflict with a World Cup game that is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The day off will come two games into a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.
