May surge: 5 top Mariners prospects are red-hot at the plate

The Seattle Mariners have one of the top farm systems in baseball, with a league-best nine prospects in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 and a league-best eight prospects in Baseball America’s Top 100.
And at the moment, those prospects are showing why they’re so highly regarded.
ESPN’s Passan: Mariners in great spot with expected pitching returns
On the pitching side, switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje was named the Northwest League’s pitcher of the week after taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning on Sunday.
And on the position-player side, the Mariners currently have five Top 100 prospects who are red-hot at the plate. Here’s a closer look at those five players.
Cole Young, 2B, age 21, Triple-A Tacoma
After a slow start to the season, Young has been on an absolute tear since the calendar flipped to May. Over his past 14 games, he’s batting .407 with four home runs, two triples, six doubles and a 1.315 OPS. He hit a a 441-foot homer last Thursday and then uncorked a 458-foot blast on Friday on his way to finishing a single shy of the cycle.
For the season, the 2022 first-round pick is hitting .250 with four homers, four triples, nine doubles and a .786 OPS in 44 games. He was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for May 5-11.
Harry Ford, C, age 22, Triple-A Tacoma
Since the start of May, Ford is batting .417 with two homers, five doubles and a 1.118 OPS in 12 games. For the season, he’s hitting .296 with three homers, six doubles and an .849 OPS in 31 games. He ranks sixth in the Pacific Coast League with a .423 on-base percentage.
Michael Arroyo, 2B, age 20, High-A Everett
Since the beginning of May, Arroyo is batting .357 with three homers, five doubles a 1.100 OPS in 15 games. For the season, he’s hitting .263 with five homers, 11 doubles and an .879 OPS in 36 games. He ranks fourth in the Northwest League with a .419 on-base percentage and fifth in OPS.
Colt Emerson, SS, age 19, High-A Everett
Since May 2, Emerson is batting .353 with four homers, a triple and a 1.054 OPS in 13 games. For the season, he’s hitting .287 with four homers, three triples, three doubles and an .822 OPS in 35 games.
Jonny Farmelo, OF, age 20, High-A Everett
After missing most of last season with a torn ACL, Farmelo is off to a scorching start since returning to game action in late April. He’s hitting .306 with five homers, a triple, two doubles and a 1.069 OPS in 12 games. He homered in his first game back and went deep twice in his seventh game.
