Seahawks Buy or Sell: How much will DeeJay Dallas, Rasheem Green and Tre Brown contribute?

With the Seahawks two-thirds of the way through preseason play, new storylines for the 2021 season are beginning to emerge.

Monday on 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny and Gallant, Danny O’Neil and guest host Michael Bumpus put a few of these storylines to the test by discussing whether they’re buying them.

Here’s a look at what they covered.

DeeJay Dallas will contribute out of the backfield

Why the optimism: Dallas, a 2020 fourth-round pick, provided a few of the highlights the Seahawks had Saturday, returning two kicks for 73 yards (including a long of 45) and adding 27 receiving yards on three catches.

Bump: “I’m buying it, and I’m buying it at asking price. DeeJay Dallas is showing that he took this offseason seriously. Some guys watch the film and, I don’t know, get into a place where they’re complacent. They made it into the league, they’re making some money, they’re good to go. Not DeeJay. … I think DeeJay Dallas is going to be a big part of this team. … If he has to start (in the return game) and change field position and change momentum, then start him there, but I think he can run the rock out of the backfield, too.”

Danny: “When Seattle’s been at its best, its special teams have been not just good, but really great and consistent units, and he’s going to be a key to their special teams this year.”

Verdict: Buying it.

Rasheem Green will be a factor at strongside linebacker

Why the optimism: Green has registered a sack in each of the Seahawks’ two preseason games and played well at a new position for the usual defensive end.

Bump: “The fact that he’s doing what he’s supposed to do against the competition he’s playing against makes me buy it.”

Danny: “Here’s what holds me back – I feel like this is the third year that I’ve heard this. … I feel like I’m going to need to see it in the regular season. I feel like everything is well and good and I’m not going to discount it and say, ‘Hey, there’s no chance,’ but it’s like, yeah, I’ve been down this road too many times before. I hope it’s true. I’m just not buying it.”

Verdict: Split-decision.

Rookie Tre Brown a potential starter at cornerback this season

Why the optimism: Brown has a lot of confidence and a history of making big plays, while the Seahawks have a question mark at the CB spot opposite D.J. Reed. Additionally, Carroll recently said Brown is making “an appeal to be the starter on this team,” though on Tuesday he also revealed Brown is day to day with a sore knee.

Bump: “I’m not buying him as a starter. I think he still has a lot to learn. I saw him try to make a tackle the other day standing straight up against a tight end. I’m like, ‘Nah, brother, you gotta get low. Those are big boys out there.’ Little things. I see the talent, I see the swagger, I see the confidence, I see the aggressiveness, but I think that he’s got to work his way in slowly and just get used to the speed of the game. I think that he will be a contributor, but as a starter? I’m just not buying it.”

Danny: “They do have some competition but Brock Huard told us he thinks Seattle might even be a cornerback short, so that might be something they’re fishing for.”

Verdict: Sell
