Who will star for the Seahawks in Week 3?

The Seahawks have had a couple standout players through the first two weeks of the season.

Jadeveon Clowney was, unsurprisingly, the story of the Seahawks’ Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The three-time Pro Bowl defensive end was acquired by Seattle in a trade just days before the start of the regular season and finished the game with two tackles, one pass defended and one sack.

It was quarterback Russell Wilson who dominated headlines after a Week 2 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The veteran threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns and completed a career-high 82.9 percent of his pass attempts.

But which Seahawk will be the story of Week 3?

That question was debated by Mike Salk and Brock Huard on 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock and Salk show Thursday morning.

Huard is hoping Ziggy Ansah, Seattle’s other big offseason addition, can provide a boost to the pass rush in what’s expected to be a Sunday debut.

“It better be about Ziggy Ansah, I’ll tell you that much,” Huard said. “Once you moved on from Frank Clark, which was an incredibly move as it turns out, Ziggy was a ‘have-to.’ You had to get that deal done. He had to fill an enormous void for you in your pass rush. And thankfully for the Seahawks, they knew that he would more than likely not be ready for Week 1. And when Clowney became available, that has filled up a majority of that pass rush need. But if you want to take the next step and if you want to play as a defining defense in your own building, then Ziggy Ansah has got to show up in major ways. He’s got to be the star of this weekend.

“Or maybe it’s Chris Carson time. A time to really feel his force over four quarters and see him have a 100-yard game as well. Those would be my two wish-list candidates.”

Salk, meanwhile, would like to see one of Seattle’s defensive backs step up as a surprise star.

“My wish list is that we’re talking about someone in the secondary,” Salk said. “That we’re talking on Monday like, ‘Wow, those Saints came to play and they locked down the receivers, but look what Bradley McDougald did, look what Lano Hill did, look what Tre Flowers did. Those guys came up with a couple of big picks and changed the complexion of the game. I don’t know that I have that confidence that that’s going to be the case, like I would with Ziggy or someone else, and maybe that’s why you get that report yesterday from Jason LaCanfora saying the Seahawks are among the three teams most involved for Jalen Ramsey – and they should be.”

The Seahawks face off against the Saints on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:25 p.m. Here’s how to listen to the game.
