Watch: Cal Raleigh foul ball smokes Brock Huard at M’s spring training

Every year, Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk heads down to Arizona for a week of shows from Seattle Mariners spring training camp.

Are Seattle Mariners really turning back the clock on offense?

The hosts get to enjoy the return of baseball and warmer weather. But the trip doesn’t come without its hazards.

Just ask Brock Huard.

During Monday’s edition of the show, a wayward foul ball nailed the longtime radio host right in the knee. Watch the video at the top of this post to see how it went down.

Luckily, as a former quarterback with the UW Huskies and two NFL teams, Huard knows how to take a hit. But as you’ll notice in the video, we had to bleep out a reaction. Not Huard’s, but instead the one by his co-host Mike Salk, who is not a former pro athlete and therefore not as seasoned with projectiles coming near him at a high rate of speed.

That’s not to say Huard didn’t smart from being hit, though.

“Ohhhhh, that one got me in the knee,” Huard said as he stood up to start shaking it off. “That one’s gonna leave a good mark on the knee.”

Huard then turned his attention to finding out who was the person responsible.

“Who the heck is in the cage over there?” Huard asked.

“It was Cal (Raleigh)?” responded Salk as others relayed who was taking batting practice at the time.

“Cal is gonna have to sign my knee,” Huard said.

A day later, there were still seams marks on Huard’s knee:

The incident has resulted in a screen being put up to help protect Brock and Salk (and producer Maura Dooley), so at least there’s that. Honestly, it’s surprising something like this hasn’t happened before in the countless spring trainings they have broadcasted from.

We can confirm that Raleigh will sit down with the show before the end of the week, so you can expect there will be a retelling of what exactly happened. Things were certainly fine before the incident in question, as Dooley caught a moment of Raleigh talking off air Monday with Brock and Salk before it occurred.

Brock and Salk will continue to air live from Mariners camp at the Peoria Sports Complex from 6-10 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
