Huard’s Chalk Talk: Red zone execution is one area where Russell Wilson, Seahawks must improve

Brock Huard breaks down a third-down incompletion from the Seahawks' loss to Atlanta and says it's indicative of how Russell Wilson can improve his efficiency in the red zone.

One of several reasons why the Seahawks couldn’t keep up with Atlanta in their divisional-round loss last weekend was the difference in each team’s red-zone efficiency. The Falcons scored touchdowns on four of their seven trips inside the 20 while Seattle was only 1 for 3.

It was indicative of a larger shortcoming for Seattle’s offense, which finished the regular season ranked 27th in the NFL in red-zone touchdowns at 46.43 percent. By comparison, the middle-of-the-pack teams were around 55 percent while 72 percent led the league.

In his final Chalk Talk video of the season, Brock Huard takes a closer look at one of Seattle’s missed opportunities in the red zone against Atlanta – a third-and-6 throw in the second quarter that was just beyond Doug Baldwin’s outstretched arms – and says that play is indicative of an area in Russell Wilson’s game that he has to improve as heads into his sixth NFL season.
