Huard’s Chalk Talk: Wilson, Baldwin connect for Seahawks’ winning TD

After the Seahawks beat Miami in their season opener on Sunday, Doug Baldwin revealed that his decisive touchdown catch in the closing seconds was the result of an adjustment by Russell Wilson, who changed the play from a run to a pass.

Interestingly, only he and his receivers were are of it as everyone else – the offensive line, tight end Jimmy Graham and running back Christine Michael – carried out the run initial play. So it wasn’t so much an audible that Wilson announced to the entire offense as it was some sort of subtle gesture he made with Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse.

“You couldn’t tell what we were signaling,” coach Pete Carroll said. “You couldn’t tell what we were messaging. It was just hidden beautifully and the throw and catch was perfect. That’s just an indication of a lot of hard work. It takes a long time to do stuff like that. To see the right situation, to communicate it properly and then go out there and execute it and all that, that just doesn’t happen.”
