Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer joined Brock Huard and Mike Salk on 710 ESPN Seattle Monday to talk about the evolution of Seattle’s offense in year two under Schottenheimer.

Listen to the full interview here, or check out a couple quick highlights below:

What is Russell doing specifically this offseason that is helping him take a step in 2019? “He’s seeing things so much better right now from a defensive understanding, knowing what we’re doing, knowing the system. Going into year two, I can’t tell you how powerful it was to sit and watch cut ups with him this offseason… he’s ale to process things so much better. And now even at the line of scrimmage we’re giving him so much more freedom because I know him better. That’s part of the deal. I didn’t know him that well last year and you get going and then now I know OK we understand each other better. He’s got such great command of what we’re doing offensively. I called a play the other day in the scrimmage and it was a terrible call, and he knew it was a terrible call and so he solved the problem and he got us into a nice little run play, a little trap play up the middle for a 12 yard gain. So that’s stuff that’s just go powerful for a play-caller to be like thank you, appreciate you bailing me out of that one, buddy.”

I know he hasn’t played a single game… but is DK Metcalf going to be a super star or not? “I tell you what, I think he will be a tremendous player at some point. Very excited. He’s an unbelievable worker, obviously the talent is there. I didn’t realize how intelligent he was; the ability for us to move him around surprises me for a young player. But the buy-in from Russ immediately makes him go up, because Russ was so excited about getting him here, a big target, a guy he can throw the go-balls to and do the things he loves to do. So when you get the quarterback to buy in right away, they’ve got a great relationship. He certainly has a huge, tremendous ceiling. But again, it’s still early in camp, we haven’t even played a preseason game and it remains to be seen. But love the upside and love what he’s done to this point.”
