It’s Friday so we must have a trade. The Mariners have sent right-handed reliever Jose Ramirez to the Braves for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
Ramirez was obtained in the trade that sent Dustin Ackley to the Yankees. In 5 outings with the Mariners he surrendered 6 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 and walking 6. He is out of options and would have had to make the team out of spring training or be exposed to waivers.
With today’s transaction the 40-man roster is now at 39. The Mariners will be able to select a player in the Rule 5 Draft next Thursday if they choose to do so.
In other news, the Cubs have claimed pitcher Edgar Olmos off waivers. Olmos was designated for assignment by Seattle on Wednesday.
