The Seahawks added depth at backup quarterback Thursday, signing former Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch to a reserve/futures contract. The signing was listed on the NFL’s official transaction report, and separately confirmed by the team.

“He has signed a one year contract with the Seahawks,” Paxton’s agent told 710 ESPN Seattle. “We think it is a great opportunity and fit. He was on a guaranteed (contract) for $1.3 last year, so we did not feel pressure until it was the right place.”

The Seahawks were getting thin at backup quarterback prior to Lynch’s signing. Alex McGough, Seattle’s 2018 7th-round pick, signed a futures contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Jan. 15. Meanwhile last year’s backup, Brett Hundley, will become a free agent in March.

Lynch, 24, was drafted 26th overall by the Broncos in 2016. The 6-feet-7 quarterback spent two seasons in Denver. In his rookie season, Lynch acted as a backup to then-starting quarterback Trevor Siemian. He passed for 497 yards, two touchdowns and one interception through three games. Lynch suffered injuries to both his shoulder and ankle in 2017 and ultimately started just two games (295 yards, 2 touchdowns, three interceptions). He was released by the Broncos in September 2018.
