Fresh off watching his team clinch a playoff spot with a 38-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll joined Brock Huard and Mike Salk on 710 ESPN Seattle Monday morning to recap Seattle’s game.

“It is a proud feeling,” Carroll said. “I thought about it, it is a proud feeling. Because the turn happened — I know you don’t like that phrase, but that’s really what it was. And it happened this season. To see these guys never waver in their enthusiasm and their fun and love for getting together. These guys love coming to work and having a good time doing it. And that’s such a great culture to be around. So to be in that the whole time with hope and positive thinking that something good’s going to turn, and the messaging just sort of stayed on point, and shoot, we made something happen finally.”

The game also saw running back Chris Carson surpass 1,000 rushing yards on the season. Carson became the first Seahawks running back to do so since Marshawn Lynch did it in 2014.

“Chris had five or six just slashing runs that were so good to see,” Carroll said.” Again, he’s got style and he brings it. Honestly, when he hit the guys on the goal line on the touchdown, I knew he was going in and I was already looking to high-five somebody because he was just going to finish this one…

“I think we’re right where we want to be. We’ve seen a style before in the past with 24, he had it. We got it again. And wait until you really feel the impact of the whole (running back) group. We didn’t get to have Rashaad (Penny) last night; he and Mike (Davis) are pounding away. It’s got some substance to it.”

You can hear Carroll’s full interview with Brock and Salk in the audio clip embedded above. Here are a few highlights:

On defense end Frank Clark’s season: “He has just grown so tremendously. He is one of the great leaders on this club. He’s grown into that. And it’s just a marvelous kind of growth or elevation of his awareness. He’s really focused and centered on what he’s doing and where he fits and how things fit together. I’m really impressed, thrilled about it. He ain’t going anywhere, we’re not losing him.”

On Sebastian Janikowski’s injury during a field goal attempt: “He is hurt a little bit now. He gave me a couple looks, and I’m like oh wow, this is awesome, he’s pulling it off and he’s still down. He landed on the guy’s foot on his back. He got banged pretty good. I don’t know the depth of the injury and all that.”
