The Mariners now have two coaching vacancies.

A source confirms what Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times was first to report Tuesday afternoon: third base coach Scott Brosius will not be returning for a third season with the Mariners. While Brosius was offered a position in 2019, he made the decision not to return in recent weeks.

Mariners Mailbag: Reacting to Zunino trade, looking at offseason

Brosius joined the Mariners coaching staff in 2017 after spending a year as Tacoma Rainiers hitting coach. Prior to that, the former Yankees and Oakland A’s infielder was the head coach at Linfield College. He spent his first year with the Mariners as an assistant hitting coach and was the third base coach in 2018.

With the departure of Brosius, only bench coach Manny Acta, assistant pitching coach Jim Brower, bullpen coach Brian Delunas and first base coach Chris Prieto remain from the 2018 coaching staff.

Brosius’ spot may not be empty for long. While the team has yet to confirm, according to sources (and a great Dee Gordon Instagram post), former Miami Marlins infield coach Perry Hill will be added to Scott Servais’ staff. The Mariners are believed to be in process of finalizing a new hitting coach to replace Edgar Martinez, as well.
