Seahawks Insider: Pete Carroll plays it coy on changes to the offense

RENTON – Pete Carroll’s poker face was strong on Wednesday when asked if he will stick with the same five starters along the offensive line.

“Got to wait and see,” Carroll said. “Competition. We’re competing this week.”

Specifically, the competition is on at right guard between Mark Glowinski and Oday Aboushi. The two alternated starts in the first two preseason games before Glowinski landed the starting job.

Aboushi was inactive last week, but that’s due to the fact that Seattle kept only seven offensive linemen active for the game. Ethan Pocic and Matt Tobin both play multiple positions, and that versatility makes them more valuable as reserve linemen.

The Seahawks will also have a decision with four running backs all healthy. Last week, Eddie Lacy was the odd man out as Thomas Rawls returned from a high ankle sprain, and Carroll was asked if there will be any changes in the backfield this week.

“We’ve got to wait and see at the end of the week,” Carroll said. “But I’m really happy that we have the guys we have and Thomas got in and played and made it through it and came out OK. It gives us all of our options.”

While NFL rosters include 53 players, only 46 are allowed to be active and in uniform for a game. Special teams play a role in those decisions, too. The Seahawks have their running backs and receivers involved in coverage and return teams, and C.J. Prosise and rookie Chris Carson have both been used in that capacity.

“You can’t just put everybody up that you want to,” Carroll said. “We don’t have that freedom.”
