After falling to the Denver Broncos on Thursday night for their second loss in five days, the Seattle Seahawks’ coaching staff had some extra time this weekend to take a thorough examination of their struggling offense.

Macdonald says 2 key Seahawks returns could come this week

Macdonald felt it was a productive endeavor.

“I’m proud of the couple days of work that we put in,” Macdonald told the media on Monday. “I think we had some honest conversations, an honest process. I think we’re definitely more aligned as a team than we were a few days ago, and I’m excited about where we can go.”

Seattle’s offense has sputtered under first-year coordinator Brian Fleury, ranking 25th in EPA per play during the team’s 3-3 start.

The issues have been widespread. The Seahawks’ 12 turnovers – seven interceptions from Sam Darnold and five lost fumbles from other players – are tied for third-most in the NFL. The pass protection has been shaky, surrendering 16 sacks. And the rushing attack ranks 30th in EPA per carry.

Macdonald said that while the team’s offensive scheme was discussed, that doesn’t mean wholesale changes to the playbook.

“Are we running bad plays? No, our plays are fine,” Macdonald said. “It’s how we get to the plays, it’s how we run the plays, it’s how we choose the plays and how we execute the plays – those types of things.”

Macdonald said Monday’s practice was a good step in the right direction as the Seahawks turn their focus to a Sunday night showdown against the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs.

“It’s a matter of following through and making sure we’re hitting the check points on a daily basis, just like it was before,” Macdonald said. “But I think it was definitely a couple days well served, and so I think it’s a cause for excitement on where we can go.”
