Report: Seahawks not signing 2-time Pro Bowl RB Joe Mixon

The report comes one day after multiple NFL insiders said the team was expected to sign Mixon.

The Seattle Seahawks have decided not to sign running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical with the team Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday.

Seahawks’ run game gets going, despite Jadarian Price’s absence

Mixon visited the Seahawks on Monday and multiple reports from NFL insiders said the team was expected to sign the two-time Pro Bowler. Head coach Mike Macdonald later in the day confirmed that Mixon was going through the process of signing with the team. Schefter reported Monday night that process included a physical.

The 30-year-old Mixon has topped 1,000 rushing yards in five of his eight NFL seasons. He was a Pro Bowler with the Houston Texans in 2024, when he totaled 1,016 rushing yards, 309 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

However, Mixon hasn’t played a snap since Houston’s January 2025 playoff run. An Oklahoma product, Mixon suffered a mysterious foot injury prior to 2025 training camp while away from the team. The Texans remained quiet about Mixon’s injury and never officially declared him out for the season, but he never suited up for a game last year.

Mixon requested his release from Houston a day before he was cut on March 6, according to ESPN.

Mixon spent his first seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, highlighted by a career-high 1,205 rushing yards, 314 receiving yards and 16 total TDs during a 2021 Pro Bowl campaign. Over his eight-year career, he has rushed for 7,428 yards and 60 TDs, while adding 2,448 receiving yards and 14 TD catches.

It was also reported Monday night the Seahawks signed running back Robert Henry Jr. off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad to its 53-man roster.

Seattle’s running back room is currently without rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price and fourth-year pro Zach Charbonnet. Price was placed on injured reserve with a chest injury last week, and Charbonnet will be out at least one more game as he continues working his way back from a torn ACL suffered during the playoffs in January.

The Seahawks were down to Emanuel Wilson, George Holani and Velus Jones Jr. as healthy running backs on the 53-man roster when they faced the Los Angeles Chargers last week. Jacardia Wright is also on the practice squad, but Macdonald said last week that he’s dealing with some health issues.
