The Seattle Seahawks placed starting running back Jadarian Price on injured reserve Saturday, which means the rookie first-round draft pick will miss at least the next four games.
Seattle already ruled out Price with a chest injury for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Price initially suffered the injury in Week 2 and reaggravated it in Wednesday’s practice, head coach Mike Macdonald said.
With Price out, Seattle signed running back Velus Jones Jr. off its practice squad Saturday to add backfield depth behind Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.
The Seahawks also elevated two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs and safety Maxen Hook from their practice squad for Sunday’s game.
Price has rushed for a team-high 119 yards and 4.2 yards per carry this season, but lost a fumble in each of the past two games. Wilson has added 109 yards and 3.4 yards per carry, while Holani has chipped in 52 yards and 3.5 yards per carry.
Jones was elevated from the practice squad in Weeks 1 and 3, but played solely on special teams. Jones rushed for 32 yards on four carries with Seattle last season after signing with the team’s practice squad in late October.
The earliest Price could return from IR would be for the Seahawks’ Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Seattle’s backfield could get a boost in the coming weeks from running back Zach Charbonnet, who returned to practice Thursday as he works back from February surgery to repair a torn ACL. Since Charbonnet began the season on the physically unable to perform list, Week 5 is the earliest he’d be eligible to play.
Diggs, a Pro Bowler with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 and 2022, is looking to resurrect a once-promising career that’s been derailed by knee injuries. He initially signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with Seattle on Aug. 19 and then re-signed with the team’s practice squad after being released during roster cutdowns.
Hook, who went undrafted out of Toledo in 2025, made his NFL debut last week with 18 special teams snaps in the Seahawks’ 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders. He adds depth at safety, where Julian Love (calf) is on track to return from injury and Ty Okada (hamstring) is questionable.
