Seahawks release safety amid flurry of roster moves

The Seattle Seahawks released safety D’Anthony Bell from the practice squad and made three more roster moves Wednesday.

In addition to Bell, wide receiver Julian Hicks was released from the practice squad.

Those departures made room for linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo and wide receiver Malick Meiga. Ciarlo was signed to the practice squad Wednesday. Meiga, who was signed to the practice squad last week, had his practice-squad exemption lifted, which means he now counts towards the 17-player limit.

Seattle’s release of Bell comes as a bit of surprise since the team is dealing with injuries at safety. Starters Julian Love (calf) and Ty Okada (hamstring) each missed Sunday’s loss to the Commanders. Okada has missed all three games this season.

The 29-year-old Bell appeared in 14 games for Seattle last season, including making two starts on defense early in the year and playing more than 40 snaps in Week 12 against Tennessee. However, it was Maxen Hook who was elevated from the practice squad on Sunday when the Seahawks needed safety help against Washington. Bell had yet to appear in a game for Seattle this season.

Hicks, 27, is being waived for the third time since he initially signed with the team in training camp Aug. 17.

Ciarlo, 25, appeared in one game for the Buffalo Bills last season, logging 13 snaps on special teams. He was featured on the 2025 edition of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, which spent training camp this year in Seattle. Ciarlo has spent time with the Bills, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans since going undrafted out of Army in 2024.

Meiga, a 25-year-old who went undrafted this year out of Coastal Carolina, was with the Carolina Panthers during training camp.
