Seahawks elevate 2 players from practice squad for game vs Commanders

The Seattle Seahawks elevated safety Maxen Hook and running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad ahead of their Week 3 road matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Hook provides depth in the secondary after Seattle ruled out starting safeties Julian Love (calf) and Ty Okada (hamstring) with injuries.

Rodney Thomas II, who was signed off the practice squad to the 53-man roster earlier this week, is expected to make his third consecutive fill-in start at one of the safety spots. AJ Finley is poised to make his first career start at the other safety spot, head coach Mike Macdonald indicated Friday. Nick Emmanwori also is listed as a safety, but he plays more of a hybrid big-nickel role.

Hook went undrafted in 2025 out of Toledo, where he was a three-time first-team All-Mid-American Conference selection. He initially signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was waived during 2025 roster cutdowns.

Hook then signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad last October and signed a reserve/future contract with the team this offseason. He has yet to play an NFL snap.

Jones adds depth at running back and on special teams. He also was elevated in Week 1, playing 17 special teams snaps in Seattle’s win over the New England Patriots.
