Randy Arozarena has another big game in Mariners’ win over Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are certainly happy to see Randy Arozarena leaving town.

The Seattle Mariners left fielder capped his big series at Fenway Park with another standout performance in Seattle’s 8-3 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday. The M’s improved to 66-74.

While it was Arozarena’s bat that came up big in the first two games of the series, it was his glove that provided two of the highlights of the day for Seattle in the finale.

Arozarena’s first big defensive play came in the bottom of the first inning and kept Boston from taking an early lead. After Wilyer Abreu hit a sharp single through the left side of the infield, Arozarena fielded the ball and fired home in time for catcher Jhonny Pereda to lay down a diving tag on Mickey Gasper to save a run.

Arozarena provided another defensive gem with a runner on first and no outs in the fifth when he came in to make a difficult diving catch on a sinking line drive off Gasper’s bat. Abreu doubled two batters later, which would have driven in a run if it weren’t for Arozarena’s snag.

And Arozarena added to his day with an offensive highlight in the sixth, lining an RBI single into left field to put the Mariners ahead 7-1.

The performance Wednesday came after Arozarena homered in the first two games of the three-game series, which included a four-hit night where he was a triple shy of the cycle in Monday’s opener. He finished the series 6 for 15 at the plate with two homers, eight RBIs and four runs scored.
