The Seattle Mariners placed utility man Brendan Donovan on the 7-day concussion injured list ahead of Sunday’s series finale against the Chicago Cubs.
Infielder Patrick Wisdom was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Donovan’s IL stint comes after he was struck in the head by a ball in the batting cages before the Mariners’ 5-4 win over the Cubs on Saturday. He was originally slated to bat leadoff as the third baseman on Saturday, but was scratched from the lineup roughly 10 minutes before first pitch.
The latest injury adds to what’s been a tough season health-wise for Donovan, who is making his third trip to the IL this year.
Donovan initially went on the IL April 18 with a left groin muscle strain and returned May 8 after only one minor-league rehab game. But the groin issue lingered, and Donovan went back on the IL May 16 and missed over two months before returning Aug. 4.
Donovan, who the Mariners acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-team trade Feb. 2, had been red-hot at the plate of late while settling into the leadoff role, slashing .318/.375/.386 with three doubles, seven RBIs and six runs scored over his 11 games. He had six multi-hit games over that stretch.
On the season, the 29 year old has a .277/.371/.409 slash line with three homers, seven doubles, one triple, 15 walks and 23 strikeouts over 39 games.
Wisdom, 34, will be up for his third stint with the M’s this season. The 34 year old is batting .122 with a .402 OPS and one homer, one double, three walks and 18 strikeouts over 15 MLB games in 2026.
Wisdom leads the Triple-A Pacific Coast League with 32 homers while batting .299 with a 1.109 OPS in 69 games this season.
Lineup vs Cubs
With Donovan out, Weston Wilson is getting the start at third base and batting sixth against Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga on Sunday. Left fielder Randy Arozarena is hitting in Donovan’s usual spot at the top of the order.
Right-hander Bryce Miller is getting the start on the mound on his 28th birthday.
