Seattle Mariners infielder J.P. Crawford will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday night, Seattle Sports Mariners insider Shannon Drayer reported Wednesday afternoon.

Crawford, 31, has been out since July 30 when he was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation.

In 87 games this season, Crawford is slashing .212/.330/.345 with a .675 OPS, 10 homers, 11 doubles, 50 walks and 74 strikeouts.

Crawford’s most recent trip to the IL is his third this season. He began the year on the IL with right shoulder inflammation before returning April 2. He also missed 10 days in June with a right hand contusion after being hit by a pitch.

Tacoma is currently in the middle of a six-game road series at the Sacramento River Cats. The Rainiers face the River Cats at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday at Sutter Health Park.

M’s call up lefty

The Mariners selected the contract of left-hander Jhonathan Díaz on Wednesday ahead of Game 2 of their three-game series at the Milwaukee Brewers. Left-hander Josh Simpson was optioned to Tacoma to make room on the 26-man roster, and outfielder Luke Raley (left forearm strain) was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

The 29-year-old Díaz appeared in six games, including making one start, and posted a 4.09 ERA over 11 innings for the Mariners over 2024 and ’25 seasons. He has yet to pitch in a big-league game in 2026.

The 31-year-old Raley has been out since July 31. He was set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a tear in the flexor tendon of his left forearm on Monday, according to a report from The Seattle Times.
