Cal Raleigh slugs 2 more HRs during rehab assignment

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh just keeps hitting home runs during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma.

After hitting three homers in his first two games with the Rainiers, Raleigh hit two more on Saturday night as he eyes a return to the Mariners from a right oblique strain that landed him on the injured list May 14.

The slugger’s first blast was a prodigious one and came on the first pitch he saw during the game. Batting right-handed against Albuquerque left-hander Mason Green, Raleigh launched a fastball 445 feet with a 108.5 exit velocity for a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning at Cheney Stadium.

It was Raleigh’s first home run from the right side of the plate during his rehab assignment.

In the fourth inning, Raleigh turned around to the left side of the plate to face right-hander Jimmy Herget and blasted a breaking ball over the fence in right field for two-run homer that traveled 374 feet and came off the bat at 103.7 mph.

Raleigh finished the day 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs and a walk. His homers were two of five for the Rainiers, who also got blasts from Victor Labrada, Colin Davis and Alejo Lopez during an 11-2 win.

The slugging catcher has homered in all three of his games with the Rainiers during his rehab assignment. In four total rehab games, which includes one with High-A Everett, he’s batting .429 (6 for 14) with a 2.000 OPS, five homers and 12 RBIs.

Raleigh’s start on Saturday also marked his third game at catcher during his rehab stint, which have all come since joining Tacoma on Tuesday. He’s in Tacoma’s lineup again Sunday at catcher, marking the first time he’s played consecutive days during his rehab stint.

The Mariners are planning to reassess the status of the 2025 American League MVP runner-up when they return from home from their 10-game road trip, which ends Sunday with their series finale against the Washington Nationals. If all goes well, he could return as early as this coming Tuesday when the M’s open a short homestand against the Baltimore Orioles.
