The latest on Mariners’ Randy Arozarena after early exit

The Seattle Mariners could be without left fielder Randy Arozarena for the next couple of days.

Arozarena exited Friday’s 10-2 win over the Washington Nationals early after he landed awkwardly on first base trying to beat out a grounder in the top of the third inning. He limped down the first-base line afterwards and went through a lengthy checkup with a trainer before walking back to the dugout on his own strength.

After the game, MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported Arozarena said postgame that his left hamstring tightened up and it should be good in “a couple days.” Kramer also noted that Arozarena went through strength tests with trainers.

Manager Dan Wilson told reporters Arozarena is day-to-day.

“He’s OK. I think a little bit of a hamstring strain, might have been more of a spasm or cramp kind of a thing,” Wilson said. “… We’ll kind of assess a little bit more in the morning and see how he’s doing.”

Victor Robles came in to play right field and Luke Raley slid over to left field following Arozarena’s exit.

Arozarena’s injury is the latest during a tough road trip health-wise for the M’s.

Shortstop J.P. Crawford was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday (retroactive to June 6) with a right hand contusion after being hit a by a pitch from Detroit’s Framber Valdez in the opening series of Seattle’s 10-game road trip. Relievers Cooper Criswell (right shoulder strain) and Matt Brash (right lat inflammation) were placed on the 15-day IL earlier this week during the series against Baltimore. Additionally, rookie shortstop/third baseman Colt Emerson missed three games with back spasms before returning to the lineup Thursday night.

Arozarena has been one of the Mariners most productive players this season. He leads the team in batting average (.291), hits (76), runs scored (47), doubles (18), stolen bases (19) and bWAR (2.6). He has also appeared in all 71 of the team’s games this season.
