Touted M’s prospect Ryan Sloan spins 6 perfect innings in Arkansas

The hype surrounding the Seattle Mariners’ top two pitching prospects continues to soar.

One night after Kade Anderson delivered yet another gem at Double-A Arkansas, Ryan Sloan one-upped him with a perfect outing.

Sloan racked up 11 strikeouts over six perfect innings for Arkansas on Saturday night, retiring all 18 batters he faced in the Travelers’ 7-3 win over the Frisco RoughRiders. The 20-year-old right-hander struck out the side in both the second and third innings during his 61-pitch masterpiece.

Sloan, a 2024 second-round draft pick out of high school in Illinois, is ranked as Baseball America’s No. 16 overall prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 21 overall prospect.

The 6-foot-5 Sloan made his pro debut last season, posting a 3.73 ERA in 21 starts between Low-A Modesto and High-A Everett. He recorded 90 strikeouts, 15 walks and a 1.16 WHIP over 82 innings.

Sloan then dazzled in the Mariners’ Spring Breakout game in March, striking out three batters over three perfect innings against the Milwaukee Brewers’ top-ranked farm system, while averaging 97.9 mph with his four-seam fastball.

Sloan struggled early on this season at Arkansas, allowing 14 earned runs in 17 2/3 innings over his first five starts. But he’s found his stride of late, yielding just four earned runs in 19 2/3 innings over his past four outings. For the season, he has a 4.34 ERA with 49 strikeouts and 10 walks over 37 1/3 innings.

Sloan’s six-inning masterpiece on Saturday night came after Anderson authored another stellar outing one night prior. Anderson struck out nine batters over 5 1/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball against Frisco on Friday night, which lowered his ERA to 1.43 through his first nine starts with Arkansas. The 21-year-old left-hander has a whopping 67 strikeouts and just seven walks over 44 innings this season.

Anderson, the No. 3 overall pick in last summer’s draft, is ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 6 overall prospect and Baseball America’s No. 7 overall prospect.
